Dear Fans...

Fans of Climb to Nowhere have been sending me emails and asking for a new story.  They want to be on the edge of their seats while falling over with laughter.  Who doesn't?   I mean really... Unfortunately, I've been busy working the past few months, but lately people have been asking me for advice regarding work.  So I thought it might be fun to post some of the questions I've been asked and the answers I gave.  Maybe it'll help your career the way it's helped mine.  And if not, I hope it'll make you laugh.

One of my friends sells real estate and she's great at it, but one of the owners of the company was giving her trouble.

Q:  "I don't know what to do, and I've about had it. I work for a small company where one of the owners does nothing all day.  This guy is a real hot head and even though I'm one of the top sales reps there, he thinks nothing of yelling at me.  If it wasn't for me his company wouldn't be doing half as well as it's doing.  What should I do?" -- READY TO QUIT

A:  Ready to quit?  Get ready to yell.  There is no way I'm letting you quit your job, during the bad economy, where you make good money, just because of a hot head boss.  When someone yells at you -- you yell back.  When your boss yells at you -- you yell back louder.  Do not let him intimidate you.  As a top sales rep, you hold all the power.  Bosses that do nothing need workers like you to make money for them because we both know their lazy asses aren't going to do it.  Bullies back down quick when they see you're not intimidated.  After you take him out get ready for the groveling and the backpedaling, and maybe it's even time to get ready for a raise.

If you have a work/job/boss/life/whatever question you'd like me to answer let me know.

More stories are coming soon.

Climb to Nowhere

  1. Well welcome back! While I too was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for you to come back and entertain me...I was also worried for you. Hoping aliens hadn't taken you up into their space ship!

Oh I got a good work question for you! But unfortunately, it's back to the job that pays the bills for me right now.

Glad to have you back, safe and sound...ummm, well safe anyway :-)

  2. Girl, I missed you more than I miss my best push up bra! I missed you more than I miss a new pair of Prada stilettos! I missed you more than darn near anything.

I wish I had been able to read the advise column above when I was still working. It would have done me a world of good. Although it was an engineering firm, and I was the marketing director, the boss was a lazy, stupid, and loudmouthed arsehole. I finally realized "I don't need this shit" and quit. I don't take well to bullies, but I should have stood up. Even if I quit after, or got fired, it would have felt good to do it.

I'm so glad you're back! I really have missed you a whole bunch!

  3. Welcome back you!! Glad to know you are alright.

I sure understand why you'd be asked for career advice. you sound like you have sales in hand :)

  4. It's good to see you back posting! I'll try to think of a question...

  5. Nice! In addition I would engage the boss in a competition and see who brings in the most sales. The winner gets to be boss!!!

  6. Oh my God! Where was this post two years ago! I would have loved to see you go after my boss. The entertainment value alone is impossible to calculate. Oh, and I might still have a job... I quit... apparently I should have yelled.

  7. Awwww out that's will definitely be good at this.

  8. I couldn't agree more. She needs to put this guy in his place. I would karate kick him in the head but that's probably not the best idea. Yelling back sounds reasonable.

  9. Great advice! Keep them coming!!

  10. Here I make my return to blogger and one of my favorite story tellers is gone. Oh well...I DEFINITELY understand...I love blogging but sometimes a busy life calls. Hope to see you around soon and I wished I had asked for advice on my job situations...I surely could have used it :-)

  11. I love the phrase located the bottom part of your post. It best describes me.
